🧶 Terminology

The pattern uses US terminology and is worked in continuous rounds, not separate rounds.


🧵 Materials

(can be changed to suit different yarn sizes)

  • 6.5mm & 8mm crochet hook
  • Size 6 yarn (I used Bernat Blanket) in colors:
    White / Black / Grey
  • Polyfill for stuffing
  • Darning needle for sewing
  • 16mm safety eyes

✂️ Shorthand

ch - chain
CC - colour change
Sc - single crochet
MC - magic circle
Inc - increase
Dec - decrease
FLO - front loop only
FO - fasten off
BLO - back loop only
HDC - half double crochet
SLST - slip stitch
BBL - bobble stitch

🐄 Arms (Make 2)

With Black yarn 6.5mm hook

  1. MC 8
  2. BLO 8
  3. BLO CCW SLST 8
  4. (BLO Sc 2, BLO Dec 1) x2 [6]
    5–7. Sc 6 x 3 rounds **STUFF
    Sc 3 together - FO

🐄 Legs (Make 2)

With Black yarn 6.5mm hook

  1. MC 8
  2. Inc 2, Sc 2, Inc 2, Sc 2 [12]
  3. BLO 12
  4. Dec 6 [6]
  5. Sc 6 **STUFF
  6. Sc 3 along top - FO

🐄 Head

With White yarn 6.5mm hook
Working back of head to nose

CCW = color change to white
CCB = color change to black
CCG = color change to grey

Bobble stitch - BBL x 5 = 5 incomplete HDC
Bobble stitch - BBL x 3 = 3 incomplete HDC

  1. MC Sc 6 [6]
  2. Inc in each st around [12]
  3. (Sc 1, Inc 1) x 6 [18]
  4. (Sc 2, Inc) x 6 [24]
    5–6. Sc 24 x 2 rounds [24 each round]

Before completing the last change to grey and Y/O in grey, complete bobble stitch and change to white for last Y/O.

  1. Sc 3, Sc 2 to attach white ear, Sc 2, CCG 4x BBL, CCW Sc 5, CCG 4x BBL, CCW Sc 2, attach black ear within next 2 Sc, Sc 6 [24]
  2. Sc 7, Dec 1, Sc 2, Dec 1, Sc 1, CCB Sc 5, CCW Sc 5 [22]
  3. Sc 12, CCB Sc 5, CCW Sc 5 [22]
  4. (Sc 2, Dec 1) x 3, CCB Sc 2, Dec 1, Sc 2, CCW Dec 1, Sc 2 [17] **STUFF
  5. Sc 3, Dec 1, Sc 3, CCB Dec 1, Sc 3, Dec 1, CCW Sc 2 [14]

👉 Place eyes between round 9–10, 5–6 stitches apart

  1. CCG BLO (Sc 1, Inc 1) x 7 [21]
  2. (Sc 1, Dec 1) x 7 [14] **STUFF
  3. Dec 7
    FO remaining stitch closed

🐄 Ears (Make 2 - 1 White & 1 Black)

6.5mm hook

  1. MC 6 [6]
  2. Inc 6 [12]

FO - 2 SLST is where you will Sc to head


🐄 Body

Start with White yarn 8mm hook

SLST 8 in a circle on the base of the head (we are creating the body)

Find two most center stitches, start on one side and return the other 2–3 from nose (roughly 3–4 wide), nose facing towards you working clockwise

  1. Sc 8 (in the SLST)
  2. Inc 1 x 8 [16]
  3. HDC 10, attach arm with 3 Sc, HDC 3 [16]
  4. HDC 2, attach arm with 3 Sc, HDC 11 [16]
  5. HDC 1, (HDC 2, HDC Inc 1) x 5 [21]
  6. HDC 1, CCB HDC 2, CCW HDC 18 [21]
  7. CCB HDC 5, CCW HDC 16 [21]
  8. CCB HDC 6, CCW HDC 15 [21]
  9. HDC 1, CCB HDC 1, HDC Dec 1, HDC 1, CCW HDC 1, HDC Dec 1, (HDC 2, Dec 1) x 3, join leg with 1 Sc [16]
  10. Continue attaching leg with Sc 2, Sc 1, attach next leg with Sc 3, Sc 10 [16]
  11. Dec 8 [8]
  12. Dec 4 [4]

FO - stitch remaining 4 closed


🐄 Tail

With Black yarn 6.5mm hook

  1. Yarn onto body directly center 3 rounds from bottom
  2. Chain 7
  3. In second chain from hook, Sc 3 in same stitch, fasten off and weave tail in and through body
