Market Chunk Bat - Free Crochet Pattern

Terminology


This pattern uses US terminology and is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.


Materials


(Can be adjusted for different yarn sizes)


• 5-6mm crochet hook

• Size 6 (super bulky) yarn in black

• Polyfill for stuffing

• Darning needle for sewing

• Safety eyes (or embroider the eyes for children)


Abbreviations


• MC - magic circle

• ch - chain

• Sc - single crochet

• Inc - increase

• Dec - decrease

• BLO - back loop only

• HDC - half double crochet

• Slst - slip stitch

• FO - fasten off

• BBL - bobble stitch (5 incomplete HDC)


Head


With black yarn and a 5-6mm hook:


1. MC 6 [6]

2. Inc x 6 [12]

3. (Sc 1, Inc 1) x 6 [18]

4. (Sc 2, Inc 1) x 6 [24]

5. BLO: Sc 10, BBL, Sc 6, BBL, Sc 6 [24]

6-9. Sc 24 x 4 rounds [24]

10. (Sc 1, Dec 1) x 8 [16]

11. (Sc 1, Inc 1) x 8 [24]

12-14. Sc 24 x 3 rounds [24]


Stuff as you go. Place eyes between rounds 14-15 with 2-3 visible stitches between them.


15. (Sc 2, Dec 1) x 6 [18]

16. (Sc 1, Dec 1) x 6 [12]

17. Dec x 6 [6]


Close the remaining 6 stitches and weave in the tail.


Ears (Make 2)


Work Sc from the side of the head toward the center, ending in the last round.


1. Sc 4, ch 1, turn

2. Dec 2, ch 1, turn

3. Dec 1

4. Slst 3 down the side of the ear. FO onto the head and hide the tail.


Wings (Make 2)


Work Sc into the side of the body at the center, starting from the bottom and working up to round 7-10.


1. Sc 4, ch 1, turn

2. Sc 2, HDC, ch 1, turn

3. Sc 3, ch 1, turn

4. Sc 1, HDC, ch 1, turn

5. Sc 2, ch 1, turn

6. HDC, ch 1, slst along the top of the wing going back to the body


Finishing


Add teeth as desired.
